We produced vivid and inspiring renders for the entire lifecycle of the project – from early stage conceptual architectural renders in 2016 to giant 10m hoarding wall renders installed at various locations during late construction in 2021.

Why it Works

Stakeholder engagement allows you to get key partners on board. When conveying projects with budgets that approach the billion-dollar mark, it is of utmost importance to clearly convey your planning.

Computer-generated imagery enriches this type of major infrastructure development. CGI’s efficient pipeline allows design changes to be clearly articulated and keep all stakeholders informed. 

Large scale projects grow over time, they go through many changes during their planning and development phases. Factors such as budgetary restrictions and directional shifts in a space’s intended usage are prime reasons the swift creation and reworking of renders are vital during a development’s lifecycle.

Community Engagement

Following stakeholders, you must gain public support for your proposed development. Viewport XR were involved from the early exploratory stages of architectural and spatial design. All the way through to creating the hyper-realistic imagery showing the final interior design of the mall areas.

Among the assets delivered were

two animations,
hundreds of CGI images, and
three 10m hoarding large-format renders.

These animations were used to educate the community and inform subsequent dialogue with the developers. The animations gained mass public visibility when they were broadcast on Seven Network’s Sunrise.

Tenant Buy-In

Attracting the right businesses will ensure the success of your development, premium CGI drives interest from prospective tenants. The main drawcard enticing the public to large-scale developments are the companies that make up the eco-system.

To help attract commerce to the development, Viewport XR did many vendor-specific renders that were used by AMP and Karrinyup Shopping Centre to attract top-tier tenants. 

Among the global names that signed on after seeing our renders were H&M and Uniqlo. That’s the world’s second-largest clothing retailer and the world’s most valuable clothing company.

Internal Review & Design Support

Viewport’s first CGI animation was completed in the earliest stages of the project. Our CGI animation and CGI graphics provided talking points and were acted upon in reviews. These conversations informed later progress on the development. 

During the project’s early stages, major design shifts were made based on Viewport XR’s visualisations. Six months later, Viewport XR were approached again to create a CGI animation for the large-scale development. This aligned with what was actually built as a final result of our CGI spatial drawings.

Large format renders that excite

Hoardings are the temporary walls built to hide construction. Our ultra-high realism renders were printed at 1:1 scale, to create a realistic vision of the space. We leveraged our knowledge of VR tech and visual perspective to make sure these large-format renders were perfectly positioned.

We catered to the lighting conditions in the mall, so that the illusion would be held to the highest standard. It’s one thing to create an image that looks real on a screen. An entirely different (and scarce) skill is to create an optical illusion through large-format CGI renders that convince viewers a space is physically there.

After an onsite press conference, the Stirling mayor Mark Irwin remarked that the realism and perspective of the CGI renders were so lifelike that people were walking into the walls. This premium quality of visualisations transports people, and gives a tangible understanding of the space, as though it was already there and ready to use.

The Viewport XR Promise

This means that the assets we make can be repurposed for usage in virtual reality or augmented reality. Configurators, training simulations, site inductions, or tours – anything you can imagine.  

Karrinyup was no exception, using custom shaders, we implemented sectional rendering to produce a gigantic 64k image. We even travelled to the development and took onsite photos of the real world location to match perspective and feel in the renders, then used real world photography techniques to further improve realism.
